CPR Maxion Platform Bed

The shape and size of some bedrooms dictates the placement of the bed. In other cases, you have a choice to make: how and where should you position your bed? The location and angle of the bed can change the whole look and feel of the room as well as how you move through the space.

Headboard Centered on Wall

The most common choice for bed placement is to center the headboard on one wall. You are left with some space on each side to place nightstands and to get in and out of the bed. However, placing the bed this way makes it the main focus of the room, and can make a smaller bedroom feel cramped.

Side of Bed Against Wall

If you have a small bedroom, one way to conserve space is to position the bed lengthwise against a wall, wedged into the corner. This opens up the center of the room, but can make you feel like you are sleeping right against the wall if you share the bed.

Angled from a Corner

A less common option is to angle the head of the bed in one corner of the room with the foot projecting out into the space. If you have an ornate bedframe or special bed linens, this is a great way to put it on display. Otherwise, it can make for an awkward feel, as you must deal with the gap behind the headboard and lack of space for a nightstand.

Ultimately, you must decide if you prefer open space in the bedroom, or if your bed is an object worthy of being placed on display.

Post by Murrye B. For those who live in a small, open apartment known as a studio, it can be a challenge to define separate living and sleeping areas. On one hand, it may be important to establish a level of privacy for your “bedroom,” but on the other hand, it is also nice to maintain an open, interrupted space so your apartment feels lighter and larger. Fortunately, there are a few options that allow you to accomplish both at once:

Furniture Arrangement

The type of furniture you choose and the way you arrange it within your apartment affects one’s perception of the space. For example, a long open bookcase can visually divide a space without entirely blocking sight lines or natural light. Another way to define space without blocking it off to is float your sofa. Try placing the back towards the foot or side of the bed so that it creates a conversation area that does not interfere with the serenity of your bedroom space.

Room Dividers

Though subtle divisions may be created by repositioning your furniture, it is possible to make a more decisive line between living and bedroom areas. One of the most common solutions is to purchase and install a room divider. They are available for purchase at many home decor stores, or you can easily make one yourself with a little finesse. Hang sheer curtains to allow some light to filter through; if you want to create a dark sleeping space, consider black-out curtains. You may also opt for more decorative dividers such as bamboo screens, Chinese rice paper screens, metal beaded curtains or modern room dividers that feature three-dimensional, geometric designs.

Fall Colors

Happy autumn, folks! With summer finally over, and the last of this year’s unreasonably sweltering, balmy dog days fading into one long, sweaty memory, it’s time to switch things up. For starters, it’s time to shelve those tees, shorts, sandals, etc. and dust off the cords, sweaters, jackets, and hats. You can weather the shift in temperature that comes with the change in season by altering the decor around your home as well. Where summer decor was all about bright and lively color, autumn decor revolves around the the inclusion of darker tones in your color schemes.

Spruce up your autumn bedroom with colors that are representative of the season and the coming harvest that it celebrates. Deep oranges, golden yellows, and rusty reds are typical autumnal fare. They mirror the beautiful foliage that you see on the trees as the leaves slowly wither and fall. Rich browns look fantastic alongside these tones as well. Just make sure you don’t overdo it with the earth tones. Too much earth can make things look a little drab. Try breaking up the monotony with a shock of bright color. Just a touch. Forest greens and bright yellows are great supplements. Blue also looks good with a deep orange. Mix it up a little. Find a gorgeous balance.

Shelter Interiors magazine described our Wing bed as the “fashionable focal point of any boudoir” in a past issue. Thanks, guys! We totally agree!

Breath Deeply.

We’ve been focusing a lot lately on the look of a bedroom. That is, of course, a very important element of designing and maintaining a comfortable home, but we mustn’t forget those intangible ones that elevate a living space from exceptional to luxurious. Few things can spice up a bedroom more than a light, delicious scent.  Keeping your bedroom smelling fantastic is a very important aspect of your daily life, and it helps to make your time there a soothing healing experience.

There are many ways to introduce pleasing aromas to your living space. Some people like to use scented candles. Scented candles come in a wealth of different flavors and are quite easy to find. Potpourri is also widely available. Potpourri works best in small doses, and warm water is especially helpful in releasing the aroma into the air. Lastly, scented oils are also a great way to work aromatherapy into your daily life. With oils, as the saying goes, a dab’ll do. The scents can be highly concentrated and may cause irritation if applied too heavily. You’ll either want to use only a few drops here and there, or dilute the oil in water, making a solution to spritz around the room or even on yourself if you choose.

Try experimenting with different scents and flavors. Some perennial favorites include lavender, pumpkin, lilac, rose, jasmine, etc. You can use them alone, or you can mix and match. Find out what you like and run with it.
