CPR Cherry Platform Bed

Over the years, trends in decor come and go. Bedroom designs are no exception. Even if your style is more classic and you usually resist passing fads, considering incorporating one of these elements in your bedroom to keep things fresh:

Wallpaper
In the 1980s, wallpaper was all the rage, especially those flowery borders. Modern wallpaper designs, fortunately, look nothing like your granny’s house. These prints feature bold, graphic designs that can really make a statement. Consider hanging wallpaper on one wall as an accent rather than papering the entire room.

Platform Beds
Unlike traditional bed frames, platforms allow you to skip the box spring. Instead, your mattress fits neatly within a sleek wooden box that is positioned low to the ground. Platform beds look modern and minimal, though in some cases, they also provide extra storage space.

Monochromatic Color Schemes
Whether you prefer cool or warm shades, a bedroom decorated with a monochromatic color scheme is sure to look up-to-date. It also makes shopping for accessories a snap.

Room Dividers
Maximize the space you have by utilizing a folding or sliding room divider. Make room for extra storage, or create an office area within your bedroom. The space will feel like a luxurious hotel suite without any extra visual clutter.

Mix Modern and Antiques
Keep your bedroom’s decor unique by mixing newer, store-bought pieces with antiques you’ve collected and refurbished. That way, you avoid that cookie-cutter look while injecting your own personality into the space.

We love it when Charles P. Rogers beds get to be the centerpiece of a beautiful bedroom. We were poking around Lonny Magazine, which is a really neat bimonthly online home design and décor magazine, and we found one of our beds featured in a room that really popped. The advertisement is for Velux, the famed Danish window and skylight manufacturer. The room is a gorgeous, minimal affair with Velux skylights, a lush and spindly cherry blossom sprig wall painting that spans the entire length of the room, and what’s this? Our Zen platform bed in the middle of the room. We love the way the skylight casts a column of light down on the bed and the way the room gives the impression of nature and serenity.

Lonny, being the net-based interactive wonder that it is, also embedded a video advertisement on the page containing the ad, so if you click over the page, you can see the room, and our bed, in live action. Thanks are in order for Velux, Lonny magazine, and the lovely woman who brings the room to life in the ad.

When you wish you could wake up somewhere new, it might be time to update your bedroom’s decor. However, it’s not always financially feasible to undertake a complete overhaul of the space. If starting with a blank slate is not an option, try these five strategies to inject some pizzazz into your bedroom decor without breaking the bank.

Refresh Your Wall Color
It’s possible to purchase a can of paint for as little as $30, and repainting your bedroom makes the biggest impact of any weekend DIY project. Stick to the same color throughout the room, or create an accent wall with a bolder shade. Wallpaper and wall decals are other inexpensive options that allow you brighten up your bedroom on a budget.

Replace the Lamp Shades
Buying an entire new set of lamps isn’t cheap, but it is relatively affordable to replace the shades. Black lamp shades create dramatic and focused light, while pink or red shades impart a warm glow to the room. You can also cover your existing shades with a sheer scarf for a similar effect.

Go Antiquing
A new bedroom set is not in the cards now, but you can purchase inexpensive bedroom furniture by visiting local antique stores, flea markets, or shopping online for good deals. A fresh coat of paint can reinvent a used dresser or nightstand, which in turn adds an interesting accent within the space.

Add Pillows
Rather than purchase a new comforter, add a few strategic throw pillows to your bed. They provide a shot of color and texture to your existing bed linens at a fraction of the cost of replacing them.

Sew Your Own Curtains
If you possess basic sewing skills, you can buy a few yards of fabric on sale and create your own curtains. Not only will they allow you to control light and privacy, but new curtains will make your bedroom’s decor look ‘finished.’

Charles P. Rogers: Chambord Sleigh Bed, with footboard

To footboard or not to footboard? That is the question. You’re interested in a bed, but you don’t know whether you want to purchase a style of bed that contains a matching footboard or a style with just a headboard, side rails, and an end rail. Here are a few helpful questions to nudge you toward making the right decision for your living space.

How big is the room?

If you have a smaller room, you might want to consider not using a footboard. Beds without footboards give an appearance of openness that is crucial to keeping a smaller space from looking small. A bed without a footboard will literally take up less space more often than not, as some beds (like sleighbeds) have footboards that taper out. Conversely speaking, if you have a more spacious room a footboard might be something you want to consider.

How do you use your bed?

How you use the bed will dictate the kind of bed you should get. If your bed is just used for sleeping, and you spend the majority of your day elsewhere in the house, than go for a footboard. If you spend a lot of time in bed watching television, for instance, a footboard might object your view.

How open/cozy do you like your sleeping space to be?

Some people prefer a tighter, cozier sleeping surface. Footboards will work well for them. If you’re the kind of person who feels boxed in having walls on both sides, the kind of person who likes to kick their feet over the open edge of the bed, go without. Height can often be a mitigating factor in these matters

At the end of the day, you’ll know the second you get into a bed whether it feels right. Make sure you choose wisely. We spend an easy third of our lives in bed. You want to make sure that part of your daily life feels as comfortable as possible.

Charles P. Rogers: Relax Platform Bed

Hello out there. How’ve you been? We at Charles P. Rogers have been busy. These past couple of months we’ve been hard at work on improving our fabulous line of platform beds. We’ve got a great and ever-expanding repertoire of wooden platform beds already, but lately we’ve been concentrating on creating more varied options for our customers. A few weeks ago we introduced the Pavilion and Newhouse Platform beds, with their gorgeous button tufted headboards in microsuede and leather, respectively. Now we’ve got something brand new. We’d like to introduce our Relax bed.

The Relax bed is a platform bed with a cozily stuffed, pillow-style headboard covered in rich cocoa ultra suede. The Relax comes complete with upholstered rails to match the headboard and a set of four solid mahogany feet. The soft, comfy headboard that the Relax sports is perfect for reading, watching movies, hanging out, any activities you love to enjoy in your bed.
