When you wish you could wake up somewhere new, it might be time to update your bedroom’s decor. However, it’s not always financially feasible to undertake a complete overhaul of the space. If starting with a blank slate is not an option, try these five strategies to inject some pizzazz into your bedroom decor without breaking the bank.
Refresh Your Wall Color
It’s possible to purchase a can of paint for as little as $30, and repainting your bedroom makes the biggest impact of any weekend DIY project. Stick to the same color throughout the room, or create an accent wall with a bolder shade. Wallpaper and wall decals are other inexpensive options that allow you brighten up your bedroom on a budget.
Replace the Lamp Shades
Buying an entire new set of lamps isn’t cheap, but it is relatively affordable to replace the shades. Black lamp shades create dramatic and focused light, while pink or red shades impart a warm glow to the room. You can also cover your existing shades with a sheer scarf for a similar effect.
Go Antiquing
A new bedroom set is not in the cards now, but you can purchase inexpensive bedroom furniture by visiting local antique stores, flea markets, or shopping online for good deals. A fresh coat of paint can reinvent a used dresser or nightstand, which in turn adds an interesting accent within the space.
Add Pillows
Rather than purchase a new comforter, add a few strategic throw pillows to your bed. They provide a shot of color and texture to your existing bed linens at a fraction of the cost of replacing them.
Sew Your Own Curtains
If you possess basic sewing skills, you can buy a few yards of fabric on sale and create your own curtains. Not only will they allow you to control light and privacy, but new curtains will make your bedroom’s decor look ‘finished.’
