At the end of the day, when it’s time to wind down and go to sleep, the last thing you want is to spend your precious nighttime hours staring at the ceiling, waiting for sleep to overtake you. You want to make the transition as smooth as possible. Here are ten things NOT to do before bedtime.

Think. You cannot solve the worlds problems tonight. Take solace that you might tomorrow.

Drink coffee or soda. Caffeine and sleep are not a good mix. Don’t eat too much either.

Drink too much water (or alcohol). Best case scenario has you trekking to the bathroom half the night, and those beer-induced spins aren’t that great either.

Watch a scary movie. Especially not A Nightmare on Elm Street!

Argue or fight. The stress will keep you up.

Work. Allow yourself time to relax and unwind before sleep.

Look at bright light. Bright light can trick your brain into thinking it’s daytime.

Check the clock. If you have trouble sleeping, constantly checking the clock will only insure you become less relaxed.

Leave your phone ringer on. Late night calls from friends will seriously wake you up.

Forget that sleeping is one of life’s pleasures you are allowed to enjoy!

What do you tend to stay away from before you go to bed?

Extra, extra! Charles P. Rogers was recently featured in an article in the New York Daily News. This year our buddies over at Country Living magazine are holding their annual House of the Year contest, which took place in New York this year for the first time in its storied existence. The house was designed with both luxury and environmental consciousness in mind, and it’s completely furnished with Charles P. Rogers metal beds. Thanks, guys!

You may not realize it, but your bedroom is an important place. You spend at least a third of your life there asleep, and that’s not mentioning the countless waking hours you rack up in the bedroom lounging around, watching television, etc. No matter where your day’s travels may take you, they all start at the same focal point. At the end of the day, your bedroom is the place you come back to for comfort, solace and restoration. Even though it plays a major role in our daily lives, we often take the bedroom for granted. Kitchens, living rooms and dining rooms tend to attract more attention.

People are more likely to congregate in these common rooms of the house, and as such, more work goes into the look and feel of them. Keeping up appearances is definitely necessary. But the bedroom is the place where you can go to let your guard down. It’s the only place where you can have a little time to yourself, spend some relaxed quality time with the family, or kick back with a movie or a book. Your bedroom is your kingdom, a little corner of the world specifically designed for you and only you. What does your bedroom mean to you? Send us a picture of your bedroom so we can get a peek at your private kingdom.

It’s been a while since the last time we graced this space, but allow us to reintroduce ourselves: we’re Charles P. Rogers & Co. We make beds. We’ve been around since 1855. That is an awful long time. Don’t believe us? Take a quick look around your room for things that have been in existence since 1855. Computer? Nope. TV? Nope. Charles P. Rogers has persevered through more than a century and a half of American history.

The seed of the company was planted by crack industrialist Charles Platt Rogers after accepting a contract to make cots for a Manhattan public school in 1854. Rogers would soon move on to brass and iron beds, mindful of the city’s serious problem with insects and vermin at the time and those materials’ ability to hold up well against them. His iron and brass designs were fashionable, so much so that by the time 1870 hit, his beds were the talk of the city, gracing the homes of New York socialites and hotels alike.

Chas, as he was commonly called, opened up a storefront on 17th Street and 6th Avenue, where the company went on to become a force to be reckoned with in the business, shipping their elegant creations all over the country. Chas himself passed away in 1917, but the company was left in the competent hands of a succession of caretakers who have kept the name relevant and important to this day. It’s been 155 years, we hope to see 155 more. If there’s one thing people will always need, it’s a place to sleep. Sweet dreams…

The clean lines and excellent construction means you will be getting a serious value. When priced against other platform beds in this price range there is no comparison in quality. These are solid wood beds with our unique upholstered padded decks for mattress support. The construction is the same quality as all of our beds and the assembly is straightforward and strong.
